\u00bfC\u00f3mo podemos pensar juntos el trabajo de los estudios culturales en tiempos de pandemia? \u00bfHa cambiado nuestras agendas de pesquisa el Covid-19? \u00bfHa transformado las formas en que pensamos sobre cultura, colonialidad, imperio, medialidades, raza, lo cuir<\/em> y la est\u00e9tica?<\/p>\n

Por m\u00e1s de dos d\u00e9cadas, las conferencias del Journal of Latin American Cultural Studies<\/em> han sido una plataforma para compartir nuevas ideas y \u00e0reas de trabajo \u2013\u00a0primero, en forma de jornadas anuales en Birkbeck College, Londres, y m\u00e1s recientemente como eventos de varios d\u00edas organizados, entre otros, por la Universidad de Texas, Austin, UNAM (Ciudad de M\u00e9xico), y las universidades de Zurich y Oxford. La edici\u00f3n de este a\u00f1o, programada para realizarse en Nueva York, se vio interrumpida por la emergencia sanitaria mundial, de la cual la ciudad fue uno de los focos m\u00e1s agudos.<\/p>\n

En respuesta, hemos decidido darles vuelta a las reglas de juego. En lugar de invitar a acad\u00e9micos establecidos y emergentes a compartir con nosotros sus investigaciones en curso, este a\u00f1o, nosotros \u2013el comit\u00e9 editorial de la revista\u2013 compartimos nuestro propio trabajo con ustedes. Y lo hicimos en una serie de sesiones multimedia que incluir\u00e1n podcasts y mesas redondas en vivo, as\u00ed como previews de material audiovisual. En cada una de las sesiones, un equipo de dos o tres editorxs de la revista expuso trabajos recientes y discuti\u00f3 sus \u00e1reas actuales de inter\u00e9s actuales con acad\u00e9micxs, activistas y artistas de Am\u00e9rica Latina, Europa y Estados Unidos.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIn recent years, there has been a significant expansion of studies around (post)pornograpy, experiences and activisms around sexual and gendered dissidence, and the intimacy and eroticization of mechanisms and representations of (postcolonial) power. In this vein, our panel seeks to rethink the obscene and its attendant libidinal politics as a conceptual space that activates the tensions between repulsion and seduction, pleasure and violence, the private and the public, and art and archiving. Some of the topics that this panel will address include: the role of techniques (of printing and dissemination); aesthetics and media in facilitating the merging of art and obscenity; the effects, echoes, and reverberations of archival interventions that center intimate materials and sexualized images of violence; the ethnopornographic construction of Otherness in cinematography, literature, and painting; and debates around the definition and performance of (post)porn in public spaces.

\nAs part of the Journal of Latin American Cultural Studies online symposium series Pandemonio 2021, this panel interrogates the potentiality of obscenity and libidinal politics as a frame of questioning and activating forms of resistance. More concretely, the presentations will center on the interventions that problematize and undermine colonial practices of the subjection of bodies; heroic and monumental narratives around the construction of the Nation-state; and the intrinsic violence of the militarization of everyday life. The format of the panel will consist of, in the first place, a conversation uploaded to the Pandemonio website between Fern\u00e1ndez-Galeano and Tortorici around their forthcoming special issue of JLACS, \u201cObscenity, Censorship, and Libidinal Politics in Latin America.\u201d On March 12, 2021, each of the four panelists (Celleri, Franco, Ouedraogo, and Troconis) will present their respective multidisciplinary research on erotics and activism in literature, art, and performance (for approx. 10 min. each).
